SUMMARY:What is Narcissism? How do we cultivate and nurture healthy self-esteem? - with Dr. Andrew B. Klafter
DESCRIPTION:In the last decade\, “Narcissism” has transformed from an esoteric mental health topic which was limited to professional mental health and academic psychological literatures to a well-known term that is discussed and debated by the lay public. In this presentation\, Dr Klafter will comprehensively review Narcissism and Narcissistic Personality problems. He will dispel certain myths and misconceptions about Narcissism which are advanced in the popular media. Dr. Klafter will describe a continuum of people struggling from self-esteem problems\, ranging from psychologically healthy individuals to the most fragile people in our society\, and will describe how our ability to nurture and regulate our self-esteem affects us in relationships\, at work\, and in our entire society. \n\n\nDr. Andrew B. Klafter is a psychiatrist and psychoanalyst in private practice\, treating patients locally in Cincinnati OH\, as well as New York\, New Jersey\, and California. He specializes in the intensive treatment of adults and adolescents suffering from complex disorders which have not responded well to more typical treatment interventions\, including patients suffering from the difficulties associated with Narcissistic and Borderline Personality. \nIn addition to his practice\, Dr. Klafter teaches psychotherapy and psychoanalysis at the Cincinnati Psychoanalytic Institute to advanced psychotherapists who are seeking to deepen their skills in psychodynamic and psychoanalytic psychotherapy. He has published and lectured nationally on the psychoanalytic and psychodynamic theory and technique\, the interface between religion and psychiatry\, and the interface between depth psychology\, culture\, and the arts.
