SUMMARY:Eve-Marie Schaffer\, Family Constellation Workshop
DESCRIPTION:In a family constellation we look at how present behaviors or symptoms may have originated with our ancestors and have been carried down through generations to us and our children. These may include addictions and/or mental or physical illness among other behavior patterns. \nThe work of family constellations is to bring these patterns to light and open the possibility for a transformative process. \nEve-Marie will share the core principles of this work with an experience . \n  \nfor more information of how this process works please refer to my website: www. evemarieelkin.com \n  \nA native of New York\, Eve-Marie moved to Germany as a teenager  returning to NY in 1981 where she earned a Masters Degree in Creative Arts Therapy at Pratt Institute and later a licensed Masters Degree in Social Work at Fordham University. \nEve-Marie’s work in private practice and as a group leader has been greatly informed by the Family Constellation work of Bert Hellinger with whom she has studied in conjunction with his senior teacher: Harald Hohnen. Her translation of his work practiced by German facilitators in the US has further grounded her in the principles. \nIn addition Eve-Marie has trained at the Center for Intentional Living\, with Michele Cassou’s Point Zero Painting process and as a Somatic Experience practitioner. Here she integrates  her work with the body to heal past trauma. \nFor the past 5 years her  work has been further enriched by studying the mystical principles as taught by her spiritual teacher Thomas Hübl. \nEve-Marie has four grown children and two grand daughters. She lives with her husband in Westchester New York \nevemarie@evemarieelkin.com \nwww.evemarieelkin.com \n  \n

SUMMARY:Living at Peace in Our Bodies - A Mindful Alternative to Diet Culture
DESCRIPTION:With Anne L. Wennerstrand\, MS\, MSW\, LCSW-R\n\n\n \nIn today’s culture\, it is virtually impossible to live at peace in one’s body\, no matter what one’s size or weight. \nIn this workshop\, Anne Wennerstrand will discuss how and why we get the message to experience our bodies as “projects” vs. a secure home to live within. The awareness of the body as “home” helps us reclaim self-acceptance and self-compassion leading to a relationship with food and exercise as self-care. \nMany people\, especially girls and women\, have been taught to ignore hunger and satiety signals\, leading to distrust of the body. As an alternative to this approach\, Anne teaches a way to access the body’s internal regulatory\, intuitive system and respond to your natural cues for hunger and satiety. And\, we will discuss what this method means from a spiritual and psychological perspective. \nThe workshop will also explore different paradigms for finding joyful\, satisfying ways of moving the body for a lifetime as an alternative to the feeling that one “should” be exercising solely to stave off weight gain. We will spend time learning the Health At Every Size Approach ™ to wellness and learn to identify and question the stressful beliefs and assumptions we have developed about eating\, food and our bodies. \nAnne L. Wennerstrand\, MS\, MSW\, LCSW-R:\nAnne is a psychotherapist in private practice in Katonah\, NY. She has over 20 years of experience working with adolescents and adults struggling with issues including body image dissatisfaction\, eating problems\, anxiety and depression. Anne is on the governing Board of Directors of The Women’s Therapy Centre Institute in New York City and the co-founder of the two-year\, post-graduate training program entitled Minding the Body: Culture\, Gender\, Creativity and Subversion. Anne’s writing has been published in Dance Magazine\, the Dance Insider\, the Journal of the American Dance Therapy Association\, Eating Disorders: Journal of Treatment & Prevention and the Encyclopedia of Mind-Body Disciplines among others. She is a body positive activist and supporter of the Health At Every Size ™ approach honoring diversity in size\, age\, race\, ethnicity\, gender\, dis/ability\, sexualities\, spiritualities\, class and all the attributes that make us human.

SUMMARY:What is Ayurveda - and what can it do for you? Dr Somesh Kaushik\, Ayurvedic ND
DESCRIPTION:Ayurveda is a comprehensive system of healthcare that has been practiced in India for over five thousand years. It is thought to be the world’s oldest healing system and is commonly referred to as “mother of all sciences.” Ayurveda\, in Sanskrit\, means “science of life” (ayu means life\, and veda means knowledge of). Rooted in ancient books of wisdom\, the Vedas\, Ayurveda epitomizes a true body-mind approach to health and wellness. \nAyurveda defines health as a balance of body\, mind\, and spirit. When imbalance occurs\, ones outlook and approach to life suffers. And\, illness can result. When back in balance\, and with health restored\, ones outlook is in sync with life\, the environment\, and the well-ordered universe. \nTo determine whether a balance or imbalance is present\, Ayurveda uses the patient’s body-type or constitution (dosha) to make an assessment. In Ayurveda our dosha is made up of a combination of the five universal elements – space\, air\, water\, fire\, earth. Should one’s dosha become excessive or depleted a plan is formulated to correct the imbalance. \nAyurveda takes a holistic approach to healing: a regimen might include specific lifestyle and nutritional guidelines\, vitamin and mineral supplements\, herbs and homeopathy\, and a detox or cleansing program for toxins. Breathing techniques\, yoga exercises\, meditation and mantras might also be part of the plan. \nAyurveda is a healing regimen as well as a health maintenance program. And\, since imbalances can be detected before the manifestation of illness\, Ayurveda is an effective prevention program as well. Prevention is a main focus of Ayurveda. Overall\, Ayurveda is a way of life – a path to fulfillment\, health\, happiness\, harmony\, and bliss. \nAyurveda can be used integratively with western modalities. Dr. Kaushik combines the art of Ayurveda with the science of Naturopathy to create a unique approach for each individual. \n \n  \nSOMESH N. KAUSHIK\, ND\, BAMS\, MPH\, MPA\, E-RYT 500 \nAfter completing the 6 ½ years of schooling for his Bachelor of Ayurvedic Medicine and Surgery (BAMS) from Kurukshetra University\, India\, in 1983\, Dr. Kaushik worked as an Ayurvedic Medical Officer for two years. \nUpon moving to the United States in 1985\, Dr. Kaushik received his Masters of Public Health (MPH) and Masters of Public Administration (MPA) from the University of Alabama in 1988. He then worked as an Epidemiologist and Director of HIV/AIDS Sero-surveillance Program with the Alabama Department of Public Health in Birmingham while maintaining an Ayurvedic practice. \nIn 1999 he moved to Connecticut and received his Doctor of Naturopathy (ND) from the University of Bridgeport\, CT in 2003. He taught Ayurvedic Medicine and Public Health at the College of Naturopathic Medicine\, University of Bridgeport\, as well as serving as the Director of Admissions there. He has been a faculty member with the University of Bridgeport\, Division of Health Sciences since 2001. Dr. Kaushik co-founded the Institute for Ayurvedic and Naturopathic Therapies in Fairfield\, CT in 2006. \nDr. Kaushik lectures on Ayurvedic Medicine at the National College of Naturopathic Medicine\, Portland\, OR\, as well as at various national and international symposiums and events. He also offers courses\, workshops\, lectures\, and training in Ayurvedic medicine locally. Dr. Kaushik is an approved continuing education provider for Yoga teachers through the YACEP (Yoga Alliance for Continuing Education Providers) and has achieved the highest Experienced Registered Yoga Teacher certificate having completed 500 hours of training (E-RYT 500). He includes therapeutic Yoga in his practice. \nEvery December\, Dr. Kaushik and his family travel to India to set up camps offering free medical care for underserved populations. He’d like to expand this service to other countries as well. \nDr. Kaushik brings his unique background as an Ayurvedic and Naturopathic practitioner with experience in public health and health education to this locality. He welcomes you into his wellness community. \nFor information contact:\nDr. Somesh N. Kaushik\n914-875-9088 clinic M\, T\, W; 646-670-6725 cell;\ndrkaushik@drkaushik.com; www.drkaushik.com \n  \n

SUMMARY:How NWHC & Providers Can Work Together
DESCRIPTION:Healthy Living – Hospital\, Providers & the Public\nHow NWHC & Providers Can Work Together\nBe a part of the Think Tank on Healing\nTo sign up for this program please email us\n\nWhat is healthy living? \nAnd\, can we better embrace a community devoted to good health? \nHospitals contribute only a fraction to the health of our communities – an important fraction\, but a fraction nevertheless. \nHealthy eating\, lowering stress\, education\, exercise and sense of purpose can all be more determinative of how long and how well we live. We have known this for years\, but contemporary medicine is only now waking up to the concept of healthy living in ways that were unthinkable a few years ago. \nWhat new integrative concepts have been adopted by our hospital that take us to a new level of healing? The hospital’s role is not just about healing but now prevention and follow-up care to keep our community healthy. \nWhat questions and concerns do you have about your health care in the future? \nWe need your voice! Get a chance to finally network with hospital officials and community resources. \n  \n  \nOn Wednesday\, February 15th\, Joel Seligman\, CEO and Doctor Marla Koroly\, Medical Director of Northern Westchester Hospital will lead a think tank/focus group for us all to think about where medicine is – and where it needs to go. \nDr. Marla Koroly received her Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of Pennsylvania\, where she was a member of the Phi Beta Kappa honor society and graduated Summa Cum Laude. She subsequently attended medical school at New York University School of Medicine\, with membership in the Alpha Omega Alpha medical honor society\, and completed her internal medicine residency at New York University Medical Center. \nDr. Koroly is a diplomate of the American Board of Internal Medicine. Dr. Koroly served as the Medical Director of Beth Israel’s DOCS/Continuum Medical Group practices from 1993 through 2004\, when she left her practice to accept the position as Senior Vice President for Medical Affairs and Chief Medical Officer at Northern Westchester Hospital. During her time in practice she participated as a principal investigator in several clinical trials related to the care of patients with diabetes and hypertension. \nDr. Koroly has been an active member of the American College of Physicians and is currently the council representative for the Hudson Valley Region of the New York Chapter. \nJoel Seligman is the President and CEO of Northern Westchester Hospital (NWH).  He has dedicated his career to the healthcare industry\, serving in numerous roles at The Mount Sinai Hospital and Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center before assuming the leadership of NWH in 2001.  He received his Bachelor of Science degree at Boston University and his MBA and Masters of Public Health from Columbia University. \nJoel has developed vital partnerships with other organizations\, including the Stellaris Health Network\, NewYork-Presbyterian Healthcare System\, the Visiting Nurse Association\, the Open Door of Ossining\, and the Planetree Alliance\, a national organization committed to holistic and patient-centered care.  He worked diligently with our Board of Trustees over the past year to finalize and implement a new partnership with Northwell Health\, formerly the North Shore-LIJ Health System\, which became effective in January 2015. \nAmong his many positions and activities\, Joel was also a member on the Planetree Board of Directors and is currently on the Advisory Board of Hope’s Door\, an organization that seeks to end domestic abuse.  Joel was selected to serve as a Board of Director for NonProfit Westchester (NPW)\, an organization whose mission is to strengthen the capacity\, impact and visibility of the nonprofit sector in Westchester County.  In 2015\, Joel was chosen to participate on the National Academy of Medicine’s Patient and Family Leadership Network.  He is the 2004 recipient of Visiting Nurse Association of Hudson Valley’s Ellen Wood Health Care Award\, the 2005 Mt Kisco Chamber of Commerce Citizen of the Year\, and the 2007 American Diabetes Association’s Father of the Year. \nIt is time to roll up our sleeves and talk. \nWe need to work together. \nPlease come to this truly important event. \n  \n  \n  \nTo sign up for this program please email us

SUMMARY:Peter Blum and Naaz Hosseini will present a meditative sound bath concert
DESCRIPTION:Please join us for an amazing sound bath concert as well as for our end of the year party.\n\nPeter Blum and Naaz Hosseini will present a meditative sound bath concert followed by a demonstration of how to use sound in a healing practice and a question and answer period. As a duo\, and (and sometimes trio or quartet\, when joined by Thomas Workman\, Steve Gorn\, or Ev Mann) Peter and Naaz have worked together\, presenting dozens of these sound baths for the past 15 years.\n\n“The keys to this are\, a) listening\, and b) trusting – our own innate musical instincts\, each other\, and the audience\,” continued Blum. “We attempt to tune in during a performance in to the collective unconscious of everyone present\, and to play the sounds that emerge from our mutual dream. We refer to it as a ‘sacred’ soundbath because for us this is akin to universal prayer with our instruments.”\n\n \n\n\nHypnotherapist and sound healer Peter Blum creates a unique meditational environment using large gongs\, bells\, cymbals\, tuning forks\, drums\, tamboura\, flute\, and his collection of dozens of Himalayan singing bowls. Peter has studied music and sound healing with Dr. Karl Berger\, Ustad Jamaluddin Bhartiya\, Beautiful Painted Arrow (Joseph Rael)\, Pauline Oliveros\, John Beaulieu\, and Don Conreaux. He has given workshops and soundhealing concerts at Omega Institute\, Abode of the Message\, Menla Mountain Retreat Center\, The Graduate Institute\, and yoga studios across America.\n\n\n  \n  \n  \n  \n  \nNaaz Hosseini \nNaaz Hosseini is a master vocalist\, violinist\, dancer\, composer\, and psychotherapist. SUMMARY:Acknowledging Your Inner World\, To Heal and Transform Yourself with Marc Weiner
DESCRIPTION:The Empathy Labyrinth Presentation\nThe Empathy Labyrinth is a kinesthetic tool that guides you step by step through the process of self-empathy.  You will gain greater clarity about your feelings and needs/values\, connecting you to your heart\, so that you can live a more joyful life. \nThe Empathy Labyrinth combines a cognitive process known as Nonviolent  Communication (NVC)\, traditional circle labyrinths\, finger Heart Labyrinths\, and  Inner Sacred Circles (ISC)\, \n  \nWhat you will learn in this presentation:\n\nHow to use the Empathy Labyrinth\nBasic principles of NVC\nEmpathy skills- Acknowledging feelings and needs\nThe calming\, healing\, and transformative power of self-empathy\nHow to use an Inner Sacred Circle (ISC)\nAcknowledging your inner voices/entities/parts\nTo make requests which contribute to connection\, harmony & peace.\n\nWhat is the Empathy Labyrinth (EL)? The Empathy Labyrinth is a kinesthetic tool that guides you step by step through the process of self-empathy and Nonviolent Communication (NVC)*. \nWhat is the purpose of the EL? To have a tool with which to process yourself in difficult situations: \n1. To calm yourself down so you can identify what you’re feeling and actually needing in a situation.\n2. To foster clarity\, compassion\, and connection to your heart so you can address your situation with a new openhearted perspective.\n3. To enhance the quality of communication with yourself and others.\n4. To respond in a way that is in alignment with what you truly value.\n5. To heal and transform.\n6. To teach the components of Nonviolent Communication (NVC) \nHow does it enhance communication for oneself and between others? By using the Empathy Labyrinth you learn to slow down\, to listen to what others are feeling and needing which allows you to respond from an openhearted  compassionate place. \nIn what settings can it be used?  The Empathy Labyrinth can be used anywhere\, anytime\, by yourself\, one-on-one\, in groups and even as a planned public event (walk). The Empathy Labyrinth has been used on the Mall in Washington DC during a major human rights rally\, in the Middle East with Jews and Arabs\, Occupy Wall Street\, Kripalu Yoga Center\, Omega\, The Abode\, Churches\, Synagogues\, Connecticut Mental Health Center-New Haven\, Freedom Project-Seattle\, and for children from pre-school through college. \n*What is Nonviolent Communication (NVC)? Nonviolent Communication (NVC) is a philosophy and process of communication developed by Dr. Marshall Rosenberg Ph.D.\, a clinical psychologist\, in the 1960’s. It is based on the idea of compassion and connection with one’s self and with others. NVC has three basic components: Self-Empathy\, Empathic Listening\, and Honest Expression. \nNVC is a practical\, learnable process that helps people connect more deeply with themselves and others\, based on universal human values. It promotes congruency with one’s values in thought\, speech and action. The purpose of NVC is to create a quality of connection where everyone’s needs  are equally valued. It provides strategies to meet needs\, which contribute to connection\, harmony and peace. \nWhy NVC is beneficial? Participants who embody NVC are able to get to the heart of a conflict or dispute  quickly and resolve it peacefully. NVC supports self-responsibility\, living one’s values in ways that benefit all\, and living a life of meaning and purpose. \nMarc Weiner- Founder and developer of the Empathy Labyrinth\nThe comedian\, puppeteer and television producer: His life story was told in a NY Times Magazine article\, Of God And Weinerville.
His TV credits include appearances on Saturday Night Live\, HBO\, Comedy  Central\, and his own show\, Nickelodeon’s Weinerville. Currently\, Marc provides the voices of the Map and Swiper the Fox on Nick Jr.’s hit TV series\, Dora the Explorer and Dora and Friends. \nThe Inner Peace Activist: He has been teaching Nonviolent Communication (NVC) and empathy skills for over 13 years and at Kripalu for the past 8 years. He has also led workshops at Omega\, The Abode\, The Garrison Institute\, The Rowe Center\, Pace University\, Princeton Theological Seminary\, and in the West Bank and Israel with Jews and Arabs together. SUMMARY:Rory Pinto - How To Mend a Broken Heart - the Journey of Love\, Awareness\, Acceptance\, and Renewal
DESCRIPTION:Who hasn’t had a broken heart…?\nWhere you had put all your emotional eggs in one basket\, had pinned your happiness and well-being on a relationship\, a job\, the accumulation of wealth or position\, the  accomplishment of a treasured goal. Where the assured existence of pleasure\, possessions\,  power\, or protection was what was most important\, and the struggle that often went with it. \nBut then some part of your plan came crashing down. A break-up\, loss of a job or investments\, a health crisis. Something gave out\, and you felt threatened\, abandoned\, betrayed\, confused – all in all\, a giant WTF?!…  Your understanding of ‘who am I?’ flailed in the dark. \nExperiencing loss and coming out the other side doesn’t have to be this dramatic or heart- wrenching. It’s all a matter of degree. But it is a matter of fully digesting what is happening and clearing any residue or ‘unfinished business’ – feeling your feelings\, letting go\, and letting God\, whatever that means to you. It’s a matter of emptying yourself of your preconceptions and opinions\, creating a vacuum and letting Spirit fill it. \nIn this experiential evening\, we will be working with powerful meditative practices that will help us to find our Spiritual Center. This is the spark that connects us with Universal Presence\, and brings balance and harmony to the polarity we live in and see around us. \nAs we experience our Oneness with this Presence\, the old patterns that bind us begin to clear\, and will fall away as they no longer serve. Space between our triggers and habitual emotional reactions arises – allowing for forgiveness\, reconciliation\, and new possibilities to come to fruition. We become more able to\nperceive clearly\, read situations accurately\, make wise choices – and act\, at the right time\, in the right place\, with the right amount of effort. \nThis Universal Presence is the state of the Infinite I AM – and it is the Source of the energy necessary to shift our state of consciousness and heal. It is always and everywhere present\, awaiting our recognition and resonance. \nWe can choose to let go of our conceptions and opinions\, experience our Oneness with this Presence\, and open to the Grace that is always present…. We can come out the other side. And what seemed like a disaster can bring us to open our hearts\, expand our awareness and become more attuned to the Universal Love\, Intelligence and Power that we really are. \nCome see for your Self! \n“For my entire life\, I have felt a deep yearning to experience God\, Spirit\, The Tao\, The Void – it goes by so many names\, and none can really describe it. I have earned to find the Truth\, and heal the profound ignorance\, sense of separation\, and suffering that I felt within and around me. Over the years\, I have sustained a single-minded monk-like focus\, study and practice of Spiritual Principles. I am happy to share the fruits of over forty years of inner work\, and walk with you on your journey” — Rory Pinto \nLong time KSG member Rory Pinto is a Spiritual Healer\, Teacher\, and Interfaith Minister. For over 40 years he has been deeply involved in the study and practice of spirituality\, meditation\, and healing methods from around the world. His path has included Gurdjieff Work\, Advaita Yoga\, Vipassana\, Qi Gong\, Healing through the Universal Energy Field\, Reiki\, Matrix Energetics\, and Spiritual Healing of The Infinite Way. He is a graduate of the 4-year professional program of the Barbara Brennan School of Healing\, and is an Ordained Interfaith Minister of both the Sanctuary of the Beloved\, and the Order of the Universal Interfaith. \nRory has also co-hosted the New Perspectives Radio Show – an in depth look at current and compelling topics from a spiritual perspective. SUMMARY:Less is more- classical homeopathy - Joseph Feuerstein\, MD
DESCRIPTION:Homeopathy\, Integrative Medicine & Your Questions\nLast year Joseph Feuerstein\, MD gave us a Q and A in front of a packed crowd at KSG. As a Physician who trained with Andrew Weil\, MD and runs the Integrative Medicine Consultation program Stamford Hospital\, Dr. Feuerstein understands the intersection between medicine\, nutrition\, and homeopathy. His approach is both pragmatic and Dr. Feuerstein will talk about Homeopathy\, Integrative Medicine and then field any questions you may have. \nHomeopathy is one of the more controversial alternative medical modalities\, based on the work of 17th century German physician\, Samuel Hahnemann. It espouses the theories of ‘like curing like’\, ‘potentization’ and ‘provings’.  Dr Feuerstein will review the history\, philosophy and clinical studies for the effectiveness of homeopathy as well as teach about some commonly used remedies. \nJoseph Feuerstein\, M.D.\, is Director of Integrative Medicine for the Stamford Hospital System. He studied medicine at the University of London and BusinessManagement at the University of Cambridge\, England. Dr. Feuerstein completed a residency in Family Medicine at the Stamford Hospital/Columbia University Residency program (serving as the chief resident in his final year) and a fellowship in Integrative Medicine at the University of Arizona\, School of Medicine. Dr. Feuerstein is certified in Clinical Hypnosis\, Clinical Acupuncture and is a licensed Homeopathic Physician in the state of Connecticut. He is an Assistant Professor of Clinical Medicine at Columbia University. \nClick here to See more  \nDate: February 24\, 2016 \nTime: 6:30 pm \nPlace: Northern Westchester Hospital Center\, Mount Kisco\, New York

SUMMARY:Beyond Stimulants: New Approaches to ADD and Memory with Mark Banschick\, MD
DESCRIPTION:These days\, Attention Deficit Disorder is commonly diagnosed both in children and adults. Stimulants are the go to treatment\, which while potent\, can cause a variety of side effects. In this presentation we will look at the diagnosis of ADD/ADHD both historically\, and with respect to contemporary brain research. \n\n\nQuestion: Can we heal these patients and not just treat them?\n\n\nWe will look closely at the variety of attention issues as well as co-morbid learning\, behavioral and memory problems that are found in this population. No two people are alike\, and certainly\, no two ADD/ADHD patients are alike. \nThe evening will feature case studies which illustrate a number of adjunctive and stand-alone treatments for ADD/ADHD that may be worthwhile to consider. \nWe hope to have a fruitful discussion. \n  \nMark Banschick\, M.D.\, is a Child\, Adolescent and Adult Psychiatrist and co-Founder of the Katonah Study Group (along with the wonderful Cindy Blum). Mark is the author of the Intelligent Divorce Book Series and writes for Psychology Today. SUMMARY:Somatic Experiencing (SE) Applications to Psychotherapy and Sex Therapy
DESCRIPTION:Roger Saint-Laurent\, PsyD\, SEP\, CGP & Sharlene Bird\, PsyD\, SEP\nMind-body connections have become increasingly important in psychotherapy. Somatic \nExperiencing\, first developed to treat trauma\, demonstrates how vital it is to work with the entire human experience to broaden our understanding and assist in resolving presenting issues and symptoms\, support healing\, and achieve greater fulfillment in life. Roger and Sharlene offer a primer on SE and discuss some of its applications. \nSharlene will present a brief overview of sex therapy\, particularly how it is enhanced by the SE application. Together they will discuss how SE\, as a body of knowledge\, can usefully complement and potentiate our overall practice of psychotherapy. \nSharlene and Roger will be with us on May 20th from 6:30 to 9:30 to give us an opportunity to learn more about this approach to psychotherapy and healing. The program will be both experiential and didactic. All welcome. \n  \nSee an article they wrote: Somatic Experiencing – How Trauma Can Be Overcome\n \nDr. Sharlene Bird \nDr. Bird is a trilingual and multi-cultural psychologist who practices in mid-town Manhattan.
