How to Be Effective & Loving When It Really Counts

Life has a beginning – middle – and an end. This timely workshop will focus on the most difficult of conversations, about saying a last goodbye, which is more urgent now than ever.

No one knows what happens after life. Yet the important days, months or years leading to a loved one’s final transition can be handled well – or poorly – by both family and practitioners.

Can we do better? Yes, we can.

We all have loved ones who have passed or are moving in that direction. And for practitioners, knowing how to work with patients, their families, and with our own feelings, can bring healing – even when there may be no cure.

Michelle Maidenberg, PhD a recent TED Talk contributor and Caroline Defilippo, MD, a CareMount Associate Medical Director, will help us navigate this incredibly important moment in our lives with insight and pragmatic tools.

As always KSG workshops are open to the general community as well as to healthcare practitioners and allied professionals.

Topics will Include:

  • Why it’s important therapeutically to be informed and acquire skills around effective conversations.
  • Discussion around difficult conversations and chronic medical illness including death and dying and frameworks of how practitioners can approach this.
  • Identifying the need for multidisciplinary approach and coordination.
  • What tools we each use to perform this in our practices with pertinent examples and challenges we both face.
  • Guided meditation with focus on death and dying/loss.
  • Debrief
  • Providing a countertransference example and open discussion around challenges others may face.
  • Question/Answer Period
