June 21, 2017 @ 6:30 pm - 9:30 pm
$20.00Vision is so much more than 20/20 eyesight!
Behavioral Optometrist, Dr. Samantha Slotnick, explores the eye-brain connection in an interactive seminar. Learn how to reduce visual stress and enjoy more efficient, effective use of your own vision, at any age. Don’t miss this exciting, educational, hands-on workshop.
In this lively, hands-on workshop, you’ll learn how to assess, test for and distinguish visual conditions that keep some individuals from engaging in sustained, visually-centered activities. You’ll have an opportunity to practice tests on other participants and ask about your own concerns.
Dr. Samantha Slotnick has a diverse background, with undergraduate roots in behavioral psychology as well as physical chemistry, and post-graduate training in behavioral optometry and vision science. This dual training in art and science is the foundation for her thorough, balanced approach to patient care, maintaining attention to detail without losing sight of the big picture.
Her private behavioral optometry practice is in Scarsdale, NY, providing a whole-person, holistic approach to vision care, for all ages. She specializes in pediatric care and vision development, offering vision therapy and rehabilitation for children – and adults –with vision problems which interfere with reading, learning, attention, performance and efficiency.
Dr. Slotnick obtained her doctorate from the SUNY College of Optometry, and went on to complete her residency in Vision Therapy and Rehabilitation, also at SUNY, along with advanced studies in Vision Science. She continued her academic and practical training, attaining Fellowship in the American Academy of Optometry and the College of Optometrists in Vision Development. She remains involved in vision research as a consultant. Recent projects include advanced retinal scanning technology in the identification of Parkinson Disease, and visual perceptual changes in face recognition following acquired brain injury.
Within her profession, Dr. Slotnick has lectured internationally, leading advanced seminars and workshops for optometrists and vision therapists, with an emphasis on vision training for patients with Strabismus (eye turns) and compromised binocular vision. She also lectures to general optometrists on myopia control, and optometric management of patients with special needs.
Locally, Dr. Slotnick is engaged in a grassroots effort to raise awareness of the signs and symptoms of vision problems, and their impact on children’s ability to fulfill their own potential. These interactive workshops are designed for parents, with extended programs available for professionals in allied health care fields, teachers and educators.
Dr. Slotnick’s authorship includes recent chapter publications in: Visual Diagnosis and Care of the Patient with Special Needs, and Vision Therapy Success Stories from Around the World.
