WHO ARE WE?
The Katonah Study Group for Integrative Medicine (KSG) has been meeting monthly for seven years. While Katonah is located in Northern Westchester, just north of New York City, it is no medical backwater. We have grown from a group of just twenty curious people to an ongoing educational group of over 300 members. All our members are clinicians, either physicians (allopathic) or complementary/alternative practitioners.
The group was founded by a Mark Banschick, MD, a physician and Saundra C. Blum, a Hypnotherapist, because of their combined sense that medicine itself needed healing and that holistic practices were too far removed from medical practices. KSG has been covered in the local media and has grown to become an inspired place for the meeting of the minds; a place for discussion about how to practice the healing arts.
The Katonah Study Group has been designed to address issues of health and healing from a variety of viewpoints – a dialogue between normative medicine and holistic and spiritual healing methodologies. Woman’s health, anxiety, depression, ADHD, intimacy issues and medical disorders such as headaches and Lyme disease have been subjects of our regular monthly symposia.
The Katonah Study Group also trains college students for a future in the fascinating world of Integrated Medicine through a relationship with Vassar College in Poughkeepsie, New York. We are going into our third year of offering internships to highly motivated Vassar undergraduates.
GOALS
One: We will continue to grow as a Medical Education Group for more physicians and holistic practitioners. The consumer and patient will ultimately benefit from more savvy practitioners – both Medical and Holistic.
Two: KSG can be an asset to the community by augmenting the level of our programming. We can do this by bringing in paid outside speakers who are important thinkers on a national level. This will make our programs richer and give us an opportunity to reach beyond professional colleagues and offer quality programs to the public here in Northern Westchester and Fairfield County.
Three: The next step in our plan will be to present this collaborative local model at Medical and Holistic Conferences as an ideal way to integrate medical care on a regional level. For instance, we believe that every medium size city would benefit from a similar educational group. Perhaps, just what the doctor ordered.
FUNDING
At the present time funding for all KSG programming is by dues. We cover rental of the Katonah Library space where our monthly meetings take place. We hope to raise sufficeint funds this year to cover our expenses and build a fund for outside lecturers and community programs. Our goal is to raise between Five and Ten Thousand Dollars this year for expenses and community programming.
The Katonah Study Group for Integrative Medicine is an IRS registered professional club (EIN 90-072393). Donations can be made out to KSG. Please consult your accountant regarding tax implications. Financial information is available if requested.
